Eligible Engineering Disciplines
Candidates possessing a full-time engineering degree or three-year engineering diploma in one of the following disciplines may be eligible:
- Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
- Telecommunication Engineering
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Information Technology
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering
- Other engineering combinations in which Electronics is one of the principal branches
Candidates who have passed Sections A and B examinations conducted by the Institution of Engineers India or the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers India in the relevant discipline may also be considered, subject to the conditions stated in the official notification.
RailTel Apprentice Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification
Applicants must possess one of the following full-time qualifications from an AICTE-approved or otherwise recognised institution:
- A four-year regular Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology; or
- A full-time regular three-year Diploma in Engineering or Technology.
Candidates must have secured at least 60% aggregate marks in the relevant engineering discipline.
Qualifications obtained through distance learning or part-time study are not accepted for this apprenticeship programme.
Age limit
Candidates must be between 18 and 27 years of age as on 28 July 2026. Age relaxation for candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories will apply according to Government of India directives.
Experience restrictions
An engineering graduate or diploma holder who has completed or possesses one year or more of post-qualification training or work experience is not eligible for engagement as an apprentice under this notification.
Candidates who have already completed apprenticeship training, terminated an apprenticeship midway or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training with another organisation are also not eligible.
Year of passing condition
Candidates who completed their engineering degree or diploma more than three years before the recruitment process will not be considered for apprenticeship training.

RailTel Apprentice Selection Process
Shortlisting will be based on a merit list prepared using marks obtained in the minimum qualifying engineering degree or diploma. RailTel may also conduct an interview when required.
Preference may be given to candidates who completed their qualification from government institutions. Shortlisting may be prepared separately for each region, state or location.
Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection. Only medically fit candidates who satisfy RailTel’s requirements will be considered for final engagement.
