The Govt. of Maharashtra, vide Notification dated August 5, 1999, set up the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) consisting of a Chairperson and two Members under the Electricity Regulatory Commissions (ERC) Act, 1998. The Commission has three-fold functions, viz. (i) quasi-judicial; (ii) quasi-legislative and (iii) executive.
The following functions were initially entrusted to the Commission under that Act:
a) Determination of the Tariff for electricity wholesale, bulk, grid or retail, as the case may be;
b) Determination of the Tariff payable for the use of the transmission facilities;
c) Regulation of power purchase and procurement process of the transmission and distribution utilities, including the price at which the power is to be procured from generators or other sources for transmission, sale, distribution and supply in the State;
d) Promotion of competition, efficiency and economy in the activities of the electricity industry to achieve the objects and purpose of the Act.

Senior Regulatory Officer (Technical):
(A) Essential: –
Degree in Electrical / Electrical & Power Engineering, Power System Engineering from a recognized University.
(B) Desirable: –
Post Graduate in Electrical Engineering/Power Systems or MBA in (Financial Management / Power Management) from any AICTE approved University / Institute, will be given preference.
Experience: –
(A) Essential: –
Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in works related to Power Purchase Agreements, Renewable Energy, Tariff Determination process, and Transmission, in Power Sector / Electricity Utility / Licensee.
(B) Desirable: –
Candidates having Experience in Regulatory Commission will be given preference.
Age Limit: –
Maximum age limit of the candidates should not be more than 45 years as on date of publication of Advertisement. The upper age limit will not be applicable for a person who has at least three years experience of working in the MERC.
Remuneration:
Rs. 75,000/-per month (Consolidated all inclusive).
In case of a deserving candidate or a candidate having experience working in the Electricity Regulatory Commission, higher remuneration could be considered at the sole discretion of the Commission

Maximum age limit of the candidates should not be more than 40 years as on date of publication of Advertisement. The upper age limit will not be applicable for a person who has at least three years experience of working in the MERC.

Rs.60,000/- per month (Consolidated all inclusive).

How to Apply
- The candidates who will be appointed as “Sr. Regulatory Officer (Technical)” and “Regulatory Officer (Technical)”, shall not have any right/claim or lien for appointment on regular basis on the establishment of the Commission.
- The Application must be strictly in conformity with the Format as under and must be typed in English on a good quality “White A4 size” paper and duly affixed with a signed latest passport size photograph.
- Application with full details along with self-attested documents should reach either by post or by courier to the Secretary, MERC, World Trade Centre, Centre No.1, 13th Floor, Cuffe Parade, Colaba, Mumbai – 400 005 on or before 05/08/2024 in prescribed format. The Application submitted either thru e-mail or by fax will not be entertained.
- The application which is partly filled will not be accepted.
- The applicants will be communicated only through the mode of e-mail on the ID provided by them in the given application form.
- The Number of posts mentioned above are tentative and may change as per requirements.
- MERC reserves the right to reject any or all the applications without assigning any reason whatsoever
- The eligible candidates will be shortlisted and will be called for Written Test/Interview.
- Selected candidates will be initially engaged for 11 Months (1 Year) on contract basis. The contract will b e extendable for further periods of 22 Months (2 Years) on satisfactory services rendered and by mutual understanding / agreement.
- No traveling expense will be reimbursed by the MERC for attending the Written Test / Interview.
- The Commission reserves all the rights of short -listing criteria’s depending upon the number of applications received.
