PwBD requirement: Candidates applying under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities category must have a disability of 40% or more. The abbreviations used in the notification include Dw for dwarfism, AAV for acid attack victim, LC for leprosy cured, SLD for specific learning disability, LV for low vision and HH for hard of hearing.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess an ITI pass certificate in the relevant trade from NCVT or SCVT. The trade mentioned in the candidate’s ITI certificate must correspond to the trade for which the application is submitted.

For Welder, Carpenter or Wood Work Technician, Mason or Civil Mistry and Plumber trades, the applicable school-level qualification may be Class 8. For the other trades, candidates should possess the relevant Class 10 and ITI qualifications as prescribed.

IGCAR Apprentice Age Limit

The candidate must be at least 18 years old and must not be more than 24 years old as of 19 August 2026.

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Maximum age: 24 years
  • SC and ST age relaxation: 5 years
  • OBC-NCL age relaxation: 3 years
  • PwBD age relaxation: 10 years

Age relaxation will be governed by the applicable Central Government rules.

IGCAR Apprentice Stipend

The stipend will be paid in accordance with the Apprenticeship Amendment Rules, 2025 and other rules applicable from time to time.

  • Two-year ITI course: ₹11,040 per month
  • One-year ITI course: ₹10,560 per month

The apprenticeship training period will be one year.

IGCAR Apprentice Selection Process

The official notification does not prescribe a written recruitment examination. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the percentage of marks obtained in the relevant ITI course.

  1. Candidates must possess the required ITI certificate for the selected trade.
  2. The initial merit list will be prepared using the percentage of ITI marks.
  3. If two or more candidates have the same ITI percentage, the candidate with the higher Class 10 or Class 8 percentage will be placed higher.
  4. Class 8 marks will be considered for Welder, Carpenter or Wood Work Technician, Mason or Civil Mistry and Plumber trades.
  5. If the school-level marks are also equal, the candidate born earlier will receive preference.
  6. Shortlisted candidates must attend document verification.
  7. Final engagement will be subject to successful completion of document verification and the prescribed medical examination.

The selected list for each trade and all subsequent recruitment communication will be published on the official IGCAR recruitment page. Candidates should check the page regularly because recruitment correspondence will not be sent by post or courier.

How to Apply for IGCAR Apprentice Recruitment 2026

Applications will be accepted only through online mode. Candidates must complete registration on the national apprenticeship portal before submitting the IGCAR application.

  1. Visit the Apprenticeship India portal.
  2. Complete apprentice enrolment and obtain the unique registration number.
  3. Complete mandatory Aadhaar e-KYC verification on the apprenticeship portal.
  4. Keep the registered email address and mobile number active throughout the selection and training period.
  5. Visit the IGCAR Trade Apprentice application portal.
  6. Register using the required personal, educational and apprenticeship details.
  7. Select only one eligible trade.
  8. Upload all certificates and mark sheets in the prescribed PDF format.
  9. Check the candidate’s name, date of birth, category, trade, email address and mobile number carefully.
  10. Submit the application before 19 August 2026 and retain a printout for document verification.

Applications without the Apprenticeship India registration number will not be accepted. Changes or corrections will not be permitted after final submission.

Documents to Upload with the Online Application

The following scanned documents should be prepared in PDF format before filling out the form:

  • Caste certificate, disability certificate or EWS certificate, wherever applicable
  • Class 8 or Class 10 mark sheet, as applicable
  • ITI NCVT or SCVT trade certificate
  • Semester-wise or year-wise ITI mark sheets
  • Consolidated ITI mark sheet

The Class 8 or Class 10 mark sheet, ITI trade certificate, semester-wise mark sheets and consolidated mark sheet should be scanned as a single PDF as instructed in the notification.

Documents Required for Verification

Shortlisted candidates must bring the printout of the online application along with the originals and one set of self-attested photocopies of the following documents:

  1. Signed online application form with a recent passport-size photograph
  2. Police Verification Certificate issued by the local police station at the candidate’s place of residence
  3. Date of birth certificate or SSC certificate
  4. Class 8 or Class 10 mark sheets completed before the ITI course
  5. ITI NCVT or SCVT certificate with year-wise and consolidated mark sheets
  6. Valid SC, ST or OBC-NCL caste certificate in the prescribed Central Government format
  7. Valid Income and Assets Certificate for EWS candidates
  8. PwBD disability certificate showing benchmark disability above 40%, wherever applicable
  9. Savings bank account number and passbook
  10. Aadhaar card
  11. PAN card
  12. Confirmation copy of registration completed through the Apprenticeship India portal
  13. Official CGPA-to-percentage conversion certificate, wherever grading was awarded under the CGPA system

Category certificates must remain valid as of the application closing date, 19 August 2026.

Important Conditions for Applicants

  • Only one trade can be selected by each candidate.
  • Candidates who have already completed or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 in a government, public-sector or private industrial organisation are not eligible.
  • Selected candidates must submit a Police Verification Certificate during document verification.
  • Engagement is subject to passing the prescribed medical examination.
  • An apprenticeship contract must be executed before training begins.
  • Candidates must maintain an active personal email address and mobile number until completion of the apprenticeship.
  • No change in the registered email address or mobile number will be allowed after registration.
  • Incomplete applications or applications without the required documents may be rejected.
  • No TA or DA will be paid for attending document verification or medical examination.
  • Chargeable hostel accommodation may be provided to selected candidates, subject to availability.
  • Canvassing or attempting to influence the selection process will result in cancellation of candidature.
  • False declarations may lead to disqualification or termination at any stage.
  • IGCAR may alter or cancel the number of seats in any trade or cancel the entire apprenticeship engagement process without assigning a reason.
  • In case of any dispute, the decision of IGCAR will be final.

Trade Test and National Apprenticeship Certificate

After completing the training period, apprentices will be required to undergo a trade test to determine proficiency in the designated trade. Candidates who pass the trade test will be awarded the National Apprenticeship Certificate through the apprenticeship system.

Does the Apprenticeship Guarantee Permanent Employment?

No. The engagement is strictly for apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Completion of the training does not create any right to permanent employment at IGCAR, and apprentices cannot claim appointment after completing the programme.
