Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) is India’s most ambitious infrastructure programme aiming to develop new industrial cities as “Smart Cities” and converging next generation technologies across infrastructure sectors.

The objective is to expand India’s Manufacturing & Services base and develop DMIC as a “Global Manufacturing and Trading Hub”. The programme will provide a major impetus to planned urbanization in India with manufacturing as the key driver. In addition to new Industrial Cities, the programme envisages development of infrastructure linkages like power plants, assured water supply, high capacity transportation and logistics facilities as well as softer interventions like skill development programme for employment of the local populace. In the first phase eight new industrial cities are being developed. The programme has been conceptualized in partnership and collaboration with Government of Japan.

Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Project is a flagship programme of Government of India with the aim of creating futuristic Industrial Cities by leveraging the “High Speed – High Capacity” connectivity backbone provided by Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).

Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Ltd. (DMICDC), a special purpose company, was incorporated to establish, promote and facilitate development of DMIC project. It undertakes project development services for investment regions / industrial areas / economic regions / industrial nodes and townships, for various central government agencies and also assists state governments.

DMICDC undertakes various Project Development activities like Preparation of Master Plans, Feasibility Reports, Detailed Project Reports etc. and acts as an intermediary for the purpose of development and establishment of infrastructure projects through developing and disseminating appropriate financial instruments, negotiating loans and advances of all nature, and formulating schemes for mobilization of resources and extension of credit for infrastructure.

1) Dadri Noida Ghaziabad Investment Region:

The Dadri–Noida and Ghaziabad belt is home to some of the largest companies in India, engaged in the manufacturing of process cars, auto parts, two-wheelers, engineering products, consumer electronics, steel etc. Further, the region is also a major IT/ITeS hub of India, wherein software exports from the region is one of the highest in India. The Meerut, Muzaffarnagar belt is a prominent industrial area with huge concentration of industries involved in the manufacturing of food processing & beverages (sugar & alcohol), textile, chemicals, steel, fabricated metal products, sports good etc. The Proposed Investment Region at Dadri-Noida-Ghaziabad would be located within 50 km of the Rewari Dadri alignment of Dedicated Freight Corridor. The Nearest urban centres are Delhi and Gurgaon, the IT/ Automobiles destination of the country.

2) Manesar Bawal Investment Region:

The Manesar Bawal Investment Region (MBIR) is proposed as a major new industrial hub and is about 82 km south-west of NCT of Delhi. The designed site covers an area of about 402sq km includes existing Bawal Industrial Town and borders Rajasthan. The MBIR is the first investment region to be designated under the proposed Delhi – Mumbai Industrial Corridor project (DMIC), an initiative to create a linear zone of development along a Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) railway line. It is envisaged that the MBIR would become a major industrial centre, having direct connectivity with DFC and major National & State Highways. As part of the initial development following three projects are likely to be taken forward immediately.

3) Pithampur – Dhar – Mhow Region in Madhya Pradesh:

The Proposed Investment Region at Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow would be located towards east of the alignment of Dedicated Freight Corridor and in the Malwa plateau of west central region of Madhya Pradesh. Well served by NH-3 (Agra-Mumbai), other State Highways, Rail linkages and with Domestic Airport at Indore, this region has excellent connectivity to rest of India. This region would be located close to Indore, the commercial capital of the State. The proposed infrastructure improvements will create a vibrant regional economic center in an underutilized area planned for industrial and commercial development. This will support job creation, preserve the surroundings environmental and enhance the regional economy.

4) Jodhpur Pali Marwar Industrial Area:

Government of Rajasthan in order to boost industrial development in Rajasthan has already taken up its first node Khushkhera –Bhiwadi – Neemrana Investment region and has identified Jodhpur Pali Marwar Industrial Area as the second node for development under DMIC Project. Jodhpur – Pali- Marwar Industrial Area (IA) lies in the western part of the state and mainly covering the area of Pali and Jodhpur district. A station on the DFC will be sited at Marwar Junction, which already offers good connectivity to other parts of India along with NH-14, NH-65, NH-8 and NH-76 passing through the area thereby offering a very good connectivity to the indented region.




5) Khushkhera Bhiwadi Neemrana Investment Region:

The Khushkhera- Bhiwadi-Neemrana Investment Region (KBNIR) is one of the proposed Global Cities to be developed on the principles of sustainable development in the State of Rajasthan. The Khushkhera- Bhiwadi- Neemrana Investment Region is to be developed in an identified area of around 165.6 square kilometres. The objective is to create a world-class city—in this area, with industry as the main driver of economic development and employment with non-industrial/non-processing uses. Supportive residential, commercial, and institutional land uses are provided based on industry-driven demand and integrated in the comprehensive concept master plan that includes a strategy, framework, and concept plan. The broad vision for the KBNIR Area is to be a leading place for Rajasthan‘s manufacturing industries.

6) Dholera, Special Investment Region:

The Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) is envisaged to be a world class destination with efficient infrastructure opportunities for setting up of manufacturing units which will help in increasing the industrial output of the country and create jobs besides providing an environment for work, live, learn and play.

he DSIR has been planned over an extensive area of land measuring approximately 920 sq. km. This node is strategically located near the industrial cities of Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat and Bhavnagar urban agglomerations. The developable area in DSIR is divided into six (6) Town Planning Schemes. Town Planning Schemes 1 and 2 cover the development in Phase-I. Town Planning Scheme 1 covers an area of approximately 51 sq km and Town Planning Scheme 2 covers an area of approximately 102 sq km.

Since the entire trunk infrastructure cannot be implemented in a one go, a phased approach has been adopted and an Activation Area of 22.5 sq. Km has been identified which would act as catalyst for further investments and will provide a base for taking up development of further phases. The Activation Area is envisaged to trigger developmental activities in DSIR and attract local and global investments. The area shall also help build confidence in the market for attracting the anchor tenants thereby paving the way for development of remaining part of DSIR.

7) Shendra Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA), Maharashtra:

The SBIA is envisioned as a very large-scale industrial cluster including abundant land provisions for high growth industries with wide-ranging infrastructure services, convenient access and provisions to handle environmental waste with minimum impacts. Proximity to the existing industrial areas, Aurangabad city and existing airport and railways, gives strong support for export-oriented businesses.

The SBIA is envisioned as a very large-scale industrial cluster including abundant land provisions for high growth industries with wide-ranging infrastructure services, convenient access and provisions to handle environmental waste with minimum impacts. Proximity to the existing industrial areas, Aurangabad city and existing airport and railways, gives strong support for export-oriented businesses.

SBIA is located at a distance of approximately 15 km from downtown Aurangabad and is 8 km east of the Aurangabad Airport. It is planned as a new industrial corridor extending from the existing Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s (MIDC) Shendra Industrial Park to the town of Bidkin.

The total area of SBIA admeasuring 84.17 sq kms has been divided into two parts viz. Part-I and Part-II. The Part-I consisting of area of 41.42 sqkm, which is further divided into two parts, viz. Phase-I and Phase-II. The Phase-I covers an area of 8.39 sqkm located north of Jalna Road adjoining existing MIDC Shendra Industrial Park. Phase-II includes the remaining area of 32.03 sqkm located near Bidkin.

The development of the Part-II of SBIA consisting of total area of 42.75 sqkm will be taken up at the later stage.

8) Dighi Port Industrial Area:

The Dighi Port Industrial Area (DPIA) is one of the another major nodes being developed as self sustained, futuristic investment destinations along the DMIC Corridor in the State of Maharashtra. The total land available for development in the DPIA is around 253 square kilometers (after excluding forest and undulating terrain). The DPIA is intended to be a port, trade and industrial hub that will augment the port of Mumbai as India’s western gateway to global trade, commerce and industry.

Project Influence Area

A band of 150 km to 200 km has been chosen on both the sides of the Freight corridor to be developed as the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. Accordingly, the Project Influence Region of DMIC includes parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

In addition to the influence region, DMIC would also include development of requisite feeder rail/road connectivity to hinterland/markets and select ports along the western coast.



Integrated Corridor Development Approach for DMIC:

High impact/ market driven nodes- integrated Investment Region (IRs) and Industrial Areas (IAs) identified at strategic locations within the Project Influence Region to provide transparent and investment friendly facility regimes.

These regions are proposed to be self-sustained industrial townships with world-class infrastructure, road and rail connectivity for freight movement to and from ports and logistics hubs, served by domestic/ international air connectivity, reliable power and other quality social infrastructure, and provide a globally competitive environment conducive for setting up businesses.

An Investment Region (IR) would be a specifically delineated industrial region with a minimum area of over 200 square kilometres (20,000 hectares), while an Industrial Area (IA) would be developed with a minimum area of over 100 square kilometres (10,000 hectares).

24 such special investment nodes – 11 IRs and 13 IAs spanning across six states have been identified. Following have been taken up for implementation under Phase – I of DMIC Project.

Investment Regions:

  • Ahmedabad – Dholera Special Investment Region, Gujarat (903 sq. kms.)
  • Dadri-Noida-Ghaziabad Investment Region,Uttar Pradesh, (218 sq. kms.).
  • Manesar-Bawal Investment Region,Haryana (402 sq. kms.);
  • Khushkhera-Bhiwadi-Neemrana Investment Region,Rajasthan (160 sq. kms.);
  • Pitampur-Dhar-Mhow Investment Region,Madhya Pradesh (372 sq. kms.)

Industrial Areas:

  • Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area, Maharashtra (84 sq. kms.)
  • DighiPort Industrial Area, Maharashtra (253 sq. kms.)
  • Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar Industrial Area, Rajasthan (155 sq. kms.)
