The Electricity Department, Government of Puducherry invites online applications from eligible Indian Citizens who are natives or residents of the Union Territory of Puducherry for direct recruitment to the post of Junior Engineer (Electrical) on a regular basis.
Post Details
- Name of the Post: Junior Engineer (Electrical)
- Total Vacancies: 73 Posts
- Pay Level: Level-6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400)
Reservation:
Out of the total 73 vacancies, reservations are available for various categories including Unreserved, OBC, MBC, EBC, BCM, SC, BT, EWS, and PwBD categories, as per the Government rules.
The Government reserves the right to increase, reduce, or cancel the number of vacancies based on administrative reasons.
Educational Qualifications
Essential Qualification:
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering OR
- Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering OR
- Equivalent Diploma from a recognized institution or Technical Board.
- Candidates must also have three years of experience after acquiring the Diploma in the relevant electrical field from a reputed industry or utility. The experience certificate will be verified by the Government.
Desirable Qualification:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university OR
- AMIE (Electrical) qualification.
Important Note:
A Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering will be considered equivalent to Electrical Engineering. AMIE qualification is valid only for candidates enrolled on or before 31st May 2013.
Age Limit (As on 31st March 2025)
- General/Unreserved: Not exceeding 30 years.
- OBC/MBC/EBC/BCM: Relaxation of 3 years.
- SC/ST: Relaxation of 5 years.
- PwBD (UR): Relaxation of 10 years.
- PwBD (OBC/MBC/EBC/BCM): Relaxation of 13 years.
- PwBD (SC/ST): Relaxation of 15 years.
- Ex-Servicemen: Period of military service plus 3 years.
- In-service applicants: Relaxable up to 35 years (General), 38 years (OBC/MBC/EBC/BCM), and 40 years (SC/ST), subject to conditions.
Required Certificates

Nativity/Residence Certificate:
Must be issued by the Revenue Department of Puducherry and should certify continuous residence for at least five years prior to application closure date. -
Community Certificate:
Fresh community certificate is mandatory for candidates belonging to OBC, MBC, BCM, EBC, SC, ST categories. -
EWS Certificate:
Candidates applying under EWS category must submit Income and Asset Certificate issued for the financial year 2023-2024, valid for the year 2024-2025. -
PwBD Certificate:
Disability certificate issued by the District Medical Board of Government of Puducherry, with a benchmark disability of not less than 40%. -
Ex-Servicemen:
Discharge Certificate and registration with Department of Sainik Welfare, Puducherry.

Written Competitive Examination:

The written examination will consist of two papers:

Paper-I (Higher Secondary Level):
General Intelligence & Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, Current Affairs, Indian Polity, General Studies, General Science, English Language, Grammar, Comprehension, and Computer Knowledge.
Duration: 2 hours, Maximum Marks: 100. -
Paper-II (Diploma/Degree Level):
Topics include Basics of Electricity, Circuit Laws, Magnetic Circuits, AC Fundamentals, Measuring Instruments, Electrical Machines, Motors, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Estimation, Costing, Utilization, Basic Electronics, and Computer Basics.
Duration: 2 hours, Maximum Marks: 100.

Negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Weightage of marks:
- Paper-I: 25%
- Paper-II: 75%
Minimum Qualifying Marks:
- Unreserved: 30%
- OBC/MBC/EBC/BCM/EWS: 25%
- SC/ST/PwBD: 20%
Candidates must appear in both papers to be eligible for the merit list.
Mode of Selection
- Selection will be based purely on marks secured in the Written Competitive Examination.
- In case of a tie in scores, the merit will be determined by date of birth (older candidate preferred) and then alphabetically by name.
Examination Centre
- The examination will be conducted only in the Puducherry region.
- Details regarding date, time, and venue will be notified on the recruitment website and leading newspapers.
