Job Applications are a Numbers Game

As with a lot of other pursuits in life, the pursuit to secure a job is also a numbers game. After all, the more jobs you apply for, the more companies you will hear responses from! Thus, it is important to apply to as many jobs as possible.

How do you do that? Well, first sign up for all the major online job search platforms including but not limited to LinkedIn and Indeed. The more platforms you are on, the more job postings that are visible to you.

Since job application work is majorly done online, it is also important to have high-speed internet that will allow you to get a lot done in a given amount of time. In case you do not have access to fast internet, our suggestion would be to go ahead and subscribe to Xfinity’s services. Not only will you get high speeds but you will also be served very well as soon as you face an issue if you call the Xfinity customer service number.

Impress Candidly in Your Application Submissions

When it comes to verbiage, we have seen so many resumes thrown in the trash simply because the language was too flowery. Verbs like “oversee” and adjectives like “excellent” do not mean anything. Tell them what overseeing entails in the context of your role and what metrics you are taking into account when evaluating your performance as excellent.

When it comes to formatting, consistency is key. Just imagine how terrible a resume would look if one of its sections was double-spaced and was written in the Calibri font and the other one was single-spaced and was written in Times New Roman! Well, this is an extreme of poor formatting but even the smallest irregularities in formatting make your resume worse off and decrease your chances of getting a job.

Coming to the cover letter, now. Ensure that it is just not a repeat of your resume. Add a touch of why you want to be in the role and the company you are applying for. Additionally, tell them about the features of your personality that suit the role.

Prep for Your Interview

Now, we know that interview questions are supposed to be a surprise but are they, really?! Here are two questions that almost always come up in every interview:

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • What role do you play in your company?

Besides these two questions, there are many others that are likely, if not guaranteed, to be asked. So, alongside the sure-shot ones listed above, prep for the other common interview questions. Research, draft, and subsequently rehearse answers to them.

Another sure-shot occurrence in interviews is you being prompted to ask the interviewer questions so make sure you have them prepared in advance as well. However, to show the interviewer you can think on the spot, try to relate the already-prepared questions to something that was discussed during the interview itself.
