Quick check. Big impact. Start now.

Because it’s not just the projects you’re bidding for, or the clients you’re taking on, that’ll need to see clear cut plans from you. Your own operation needs to be well organised and efficiently managed – and that’s easier said than done.

The behind the scenes portion of your construction business takes a firm hand, but it doesn’t have to be as hard to maintain this as you might think. As such, here are the tips we believe every construction owner needs to have on their side.

Know Where and When Your Team Will See Your Messages

How does your team communicate, primarily? This is the best way to get your messages down to them, no matter what your own preferred method of contact is.

After all, if you send emails despite knowing that half your team never checks these more than once a week (if that), you’re going to need another way to get time sensitive, important notices out to them.

One of the best ways is using a Whatsapp group chat, or you could try sending notifications via your scheduling platform – but you can’t be sure every employee has their notifications turned on for these.

So keep it simple here; collect everyone together in a group on a popular app that isn’t hard to check, and then use it for all the important communications.

Create Templates for Payday

Paying your team cash in hand can be hard to account for. The money is hard to track on your side too, for tax reporting purposes, and the legalities of this payment setup can fall into a grey area.

It’s why you may want to work with payroll software that takes care of the hard work for you. This way you’re not needing an extra couple of hours (at the least) in the office to sort through the paperwork. People can be paid on time without any extra effort.

Plus, it’s very easy to download and install a program like this. And once you have, you’ve got yourself an easy way to come up with a payslip template or an accounting spreadsheet you can add to as time goes on.

Stay Aware of Where Risks Exist

Not just physical, but financial and organisational too. No construction worksite can proceed without risk assessments and PPE, but you also need to know where your cost risks, and potentials for delay, exist as well.

When you know where they are, you can plan ahead for them. You can keep your clients on the loop on them. And above all, you can minimise the damage they could cause – to both the work itself and your reputation as a construction company.

When you’re a construction company owner, you’re going to need a strong and stable setup behind the scenes. Make sure you follow tips like these to keep your construction management turning over at the right cost and speed.
